The Patron of Iglesias is celebrated on the 11th of august. The monument honoring this saint, is the Cathedral of Saint Catherine of Assisi which can be found on the main square of the town. The Cathedral was built in Roman- Gothic style by Count Ugulino, and it was not until 1503 that it got elevated to Cathedral. Of the orinal building now only the facade remains, as it was in 1284. The spanish domanition that followed in the 16th century, had an impact on the architectural style of the building, changing thus by means of Gothic Catalan influences .
The interior consists of only one nave with two lateral chapels that confer to the groundplan in the form of a latin cross. Connected to this, is the archdiocese and in front of the cathedral, the Town Hall building. Around the square the city devellops in a grid pattern as conforming to pisan tradition.
